Faith

Some dream about faith.

Some build temples to house it.

Faith is free to run through a soul

Like a wild horse in an open meadow

Some keep it locked inside.

Yet others let it our with the key of their heart

Faith is complex.

Maybe you will find it by yourself.

But sometimes we need a little help to light

The candle of faith within us.

Let it fill your soul with zeal to

Know that there is faith in the world.

And it is for you.

Mr. Death

Mr. Death

He flattened his suit and straightened his tie.

“How am I going to get through all these appointments tonight?” he asked himself. He was a man of medium build, well kept hair, neat black suit, white undershirt, and a formal black tie.

“Ah well,” he sighed. “Better get going or I’ll never make it to Mr. Stonewall on schedule.” He reached for his cane and went out the door. As he walked down the street not a single person looked at him. He passed a group of children playing jump rope.

“Not your time yet, eh?” And of course it wasn’t any of their time yet. Because they didn’t see the man in the black suit with the cane, they couldn’t because he was Death.

He paused to look at his watch. “Oh, I’d better hurry! I must get to Mr. Stonewall before six o’clock.

He arrived at Mr. Stonewall’s apartment precisely as the church bells rang six. Mr. Death walked through the door.

“He…Hello?”

“Hello Mr. Stonewall. It is time to come with me.”

Mr. Stonewall was lying in his bed, looking as if he wasn’t strong enough even to sit up. “Who are you?” he asked.

“My name is Death sir, Mr. Death.” he answered with a bow.

Mr. James Stonewall took a deep breath and asked, “So it’s my turn to die is it?”

“Yes sir.” came the reply.

“Alright then.” Mr. Stonewall wearily got up from his death bed and followed the man in the black suit with the cane out of his apartment and into the evening world. “Do you enjoy your job Mr. Death?” he questioned.

“I do what I have to sir.”

They passed by the children playing jump rope again. They were laughing and playing without a care in the world. Mr. Stonewall paused to watch them jump. “But what if you had to take one of them Mr. Death?” he asked. “What if one of them died?”

“I don’t quite understand what you’re asking me sir.” said Mr. Death.

“Would you enjoy your job then Mr. Death?”

Mr. Death turned to him. “Few things can make this job enjoyable to me Mr. Stonewall. Very few! I do what I must sir. Now we must hurry please, I have a rather busy schedule tonight.”

Mr. James Stonewall sighed and said. “Of course. But may I ask you one more thing?”

“You just did, but ask away sir.” answered Mr. Death.

“Do you think I’ll go to heaven?”

“That sir,” said Mr. Death, “I can not say. I am very sorry but I do not know.”

“Of course.” said Mr. Stonewall depressed.

“Now sir, if you could please follow me?”

“Of course.”

Those were the last words of Mr. James Stonewall before he and the man in the black suit with the cane walked into the world beyond.

Poems

Maybe one day we’ll all say

We should have seized the day

We had a chance

To sing and dance

But instead we wasted away

Spirit

White Lovely Ghost

Sweeping through a person

With me all the time, everywhere

Holy

Maybe

not yes not no

hard to make up your mind

in other words I have no clue

Now what

He is with us now

He will be here forever

He can not die here

The Clock of Life

The Clock of Life

Tick…Tick…Tick

That’s 3 seconds of your life gone by

Wasted

What are you doing?

Get up!

Life is hard sometimes but just get up and try.

Fine…

Just sit there!

Just sit there and waste your whole life away!

That’s a great way to live!

Listening to that damn clock of life tick tick ticking your time away.

Ok I’ll leave you and your clock alone now and go live my life.

Grace

Grace

Well there I was, after a hard week of working I was with the rest of the camp white water rafting. I had been anticipating this all week. So first our guide Summer went over all the commands with us, like “All forward” and “All back”. Pretty simple right? The next thing I knew I was on the raft in a level IV rapid. Summer yelled “All forward!” We all paddled forward and just missed a huge boulder. “One forward! One more forward!” shouted Summer. Suddenly my foot lost grip in the seat and at the same moment we hit a hole. The boat jerked upwards, I was ejected from the boat and landed probably 5 feet away. I raised my hands above my head out of the water in hope that someone would see me. I remember things while I was in the water, even though it was only for about thirty seconds. I remember thinking “Where’s the air?” And taking a breath of nothing but water. I think that was the scariest moment of my entire life. After it seemed like forever the guide of another raft pulled me up out of the water. I got a good gulp of air then back down under the water again. The guide had fallen out of his boat to get me another breath of life. Thank God for him! Summer had turned the raft around and grabbing my hands she pulled me to the safety of the little blue raft.

And to think just that morning we were talking about grace and suffering, how when you are suffering God shows you grace. I remember asking one of the campers that night what she thought grace and suffering had to do with each other. And she answered, “Well I think it really just clicked for me. I mean when you were in the water, you were suffering and then God showed you grace by allowing you to be pulled up.” I think that’s exactly what grace is.

My Dead Friend

As we spoke there came suddenly the sound of footsteps.

“I must go now, we will meet again.”

“Don’t leave me again!” I cried.

“I must, if they see you with me they will capture us both!”

I watched as she fled into the darkness. I turned and saw two German officers coming towards me. They walked straight past me without even bothering to look. I wondered if I would ever see my friend again. Then a gunshot rang throughout the street. A small scream followed it closely. And now I knew I wouldn’t.

The Little Elephant

The Little Elephant

Narrator:

We find Lisette Cheyenne in the psychiatrist office of Dr. Ann Rye.

Dr. Rye:

Now Miss Lisette what is wrong?

Lisette:

Well doctor I think I’ve been seeing things. There is this little elephant following me around.

As Miss Lisette is telling this to Dr. Rye a miniature elephant walks across the Dr.’s desk. Dr. Rye doesn’t notice it because she is busy writing notes.

Dr. Rye:

And how long has this been going on?

Lisette:

Oh…I guess for about 3 weeks now.

Dr. Rye:

Mhm…

Dr. Rye presses a button on a machine on her desk. Michelle Esteva, her secretary’s voice crackles a “Yes?”

Dr. Rye:

Michelle would you please bring me a bottle of Advai?

Michelle:

Of course.

Dr. Rye:

Ok Lisette you will need to sign these papers please.

While Lisette is signing the papers Michelle walks in and hands the Dr. a small bottle of purple liquid.

Dr. Rye:

You will need to take one spoonful of this for 3 days, and it should help with your elephant problem.

Lisette: (shouts suddenly, seeing the elephant)

There it is!!

Dr. Rye:

What?!?

Lisette:

The elephant I told you about, it was on your desk!

Dr. Rye:

Hmm… Why don’t you take two spoonfuls a day ok Lisette?

Dr. Rye puts the paperwork on her desk and starts to writs as Lisette leaves. The mini elephant starts walking across her desk again. Finally it gets to her papers and while making a crunching noise with each step walks across them too.

Dr. Rye glances at it then returns to her work. Then realizes what she is seeing and calls Michelle into her office.

Dr. Rye: (laying on the couch)

Have a seat please Michelle.

Michelle: (sits down)

What’s wrong doctor?

Dr. Rye:

Well it all started when my dad took me to the circus...

The End!!

King of Feday

King of Feday

He could see that the boy was frozen with fear. He loved that look on a young child. The fear as he approached them. He stopped, drank in the frightened looks on their faces with pleasure as he said to them, “Good people of Feday, do not fear. For your new king has arrived.”

The people gasped and there was muttering all around.

“I have come to claim the throne from my dead brother.”

He smoothed down his long black hair.

“What are you all standing here staring for? I want my flags hung over the windows of the castle and a banner in the tower.” The common people who worked in the castle hurried to meet his demands. This would be the beginning of a dark time for the people of Feday. The new king was cruel and merciless.

In a house on the edge of the city there was a family sitting down to a meager dinner. No one was talking. “I’m tired of it all!” suddenly yelled the boy.

“Jehan!” cried his mother. “Hush, There might be a sentry around!”

“No mother I’m sick and tired of that good for nothing pig, sitting in the king’s castle. We need to do something!”

“But Jehan, we can do nothing.”

“I’m leaving.” said Jehan. And with that, a goodbye, and a kiss from his mother he was off to the castle.

He reached the castle by dusk and right to the king’s chamber. “Get out of here.” said the king.

“No! I am here to rid you of Feday forever!” Jehan cried. The evil king just laughed. Jehan took the bow from his back and an arrow from his quiver and shot the evil king. Jehan took over the throne and ruled as a king should. There was happiness in Feday once more.

The Dream

The Dream

“Hey who do we have here?” said the man. He looked at his old friend like he hadn’t seen him in years.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” asked Jakob.

“It’s just that I had a dream.”

“What kind of dream?” Jakob asked apprehensively.

“I had a dream you died.” said the man, “You died! Because of me!”

Jakob just looked at the man, his old friend from many years ago and remembered something. Something he had heard somewhere. He remembered that, maybe it was a gypsy telling him; dreams predicted what will come to happen. “Why don’t we go somewhere more private.” said Jakob looking around at the noisy bar.

So Jakob led the man into an alleyway and sat with his back against a wall. “Now tell me about your dream.”

“Alright.” said the man. “We were running through the woods. Running away from men on horses with swords at their sides. Suddenly a large cliff loomed out against the night sky. We both stopped to turn and face the men. One of them I recognized as the Duke’s right hand man, The Hanger. The Hanger got off his horse and walked up to us. ‘Thank you for telling us were he was Michael, your information has proven very useful.’ He looked at me like it was his birthday and he had been handed a rather large present. ‘Now Jakob,’ he said, ‘you shall pay for your crimes here!’ Then suddenly The Hanger slashed you through the heart! And you fell backwards off the cliff!”

Jakob just stared at the man who had just dreamed up his own death.

“I’m so sorry” was all he could say before Jakob left him.

Karel the Thief

Karel the Thief

She slipped off the windowsill and into the night just like her father did many years before. She met the boy where they had planned to. She looked at him for a moment then motioned that they must move. She followed the boy through all kinds of alleyways and even over some. When they were far enough away she told him the story as promised.

“When our father was young,” she began, “he wasn’t really interested in being a prince, No he wanted to be a robber. Like the Grey Fox so many minstrels had sung songs about. So he did. Yes, he ran away from the castle and lived on the streets. Stealing bread and meat from bakers and butchers windows. Eventually he became known through the city. Karel the thief they would call him. He took pride in his thieving abilities.”

The young boy sat staring at her with eyes filled with wonder and amaze. She continued, “Yes our father was a great thief. But what he couldn’t steal was the heart of the woman he loved. She was a maidservant to the king, his father. She didn’t want to marry a thief. She felt that a thief spent too many nights away and she couldn’t live with the worry of him being on the run always. This was her real fear. She did love Karel though. So Karel went to the palace in his finest clothes and demanded to speak to the king’s maidservant. ‘Niami,’ he said to her, ’if I reclaim my throne as prince, then will you marry me?’ Niami, of course, said yes. But only two years after their marriage Niami died of a terrible sickness. Our father grieved for many years and I believe he still does.”

The boy was still staring at her with his big brown eyes.

“I never knew that, and I would have been too afraid to ask.” he said. “Now I know about the man who we call our father.”
